JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new surf park planned in Jacksonville’s eTown development is one step closer to becoming a reality after the City Council gave its final approval on Tuesday.
According to News4JAX’s news partner the Jacksonville Daily Record, councilmembers voted 18-0 on legislation granting a rezoning request for the 55.27-acre mixed-use development.
Aventuur, a Los Angeles-based developer, is the developer in charge of bringing waves to the city.
“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the Wavegarden to the Jacksonville community,” Aventuur CEO Nicholas Edelman said in a news release last year. “We met our local partners in March 2022 and admire the passion they have for both surf and the city of Jacksonville. We have built an incredible amount of trust between our partners and the PARC Group, and we are extremely proud of the site we have secured for the development.”
The park at 11374 Etown Parkway is part of a 237-4-acre development southwest of Florida 9B and Interstate 295 interchange. In city documents, the development is identified as E Town Village Center West.
The park will be powered by Wavegarden Cove wave-generating technology and will offer up to 1,000 waves an hour.
Pending permitting, construction is expected to start in 2026 and potentially open in late 2027.
